DoTheMostGood Strong Schools Maryland Group Featured in News Story
A recent article in a local newspaper highlighted the work of the DoTheMostGood Strong Schools Maryland Group. Susan Belford, a reporter with the Potomac Almanac, attended the group’s May 29 meeting and wrote an in-depth description of the group’s activities and priorities. You can read the entire article here.
The May meeting saw the launch of a postcard writing campaign to urge the “Kirwan Commission” to complete work on their full funding report well in advance of the November General Elections. Time is needed for public debate and, importantly, for candidates to be questioned regarding their positions on the report’s recommendations.
The DoTheMostGood Strong Schools Maryland Group is also supporting the so-called Lockbox Amendment to the state constitution which will be voted on in a general referendum in November. Under this amendment, the state would be barred from using gambling money from the state’s casinos for projects other than education. Proponents argue that this is in keeping with the voters’ original intent when casino gambling was initially approved in ballot measures in 2008 and 2012. Contrary to assurances made at the time, revenues have been passed into the general fund.
