RCV Day of Action:
Raise Your Voices, Rank Your Choices
Wednesday, January 23 is a Day of Action for Ranked Choice Voting all across Maryland. #Raise Your Voices #Rank Your Choices.
If you long for more positive, civilized campaigns and expanding the voices of all voters, then advocate for Ranked Choice Voting (RCV). RCV allows voters to express their preferences for multiple candidates on a ballot, insuring that whichever candidate wins will have the support of a MAJORITY of the voters.
Senator Cheryl Kagan (D39) and Del. Eric Luedtke (D14) have introduced a bill, MC29-19 Montgomery County – Voting Methods, that would authorize the Montgomery County Council, to evaluate and, if approved, to adopt a ranked choice voting or approval voting method for elections for certain local offices in Montgomery County. You can read the bill here.
Because MC29-19 is enabling legislation, it does not mandate a change to RCV or any other voting method; it simply authorizes the County Council to evaluate such a system.
Please Take This Action
- Contact you State Senator and Delegates and ask them to vote in favor of MC29-19 so Montgomery County can begin public discussions on ways to improve county elections, including alternative voting systems such as Ranked Choice Voting.
- Contact your District and At-Large County Councilmembers and ask them to endorse passage of MC29-19 by the Maryland Legislature. Strong support from the County Council will provide a big boost for the bill in Annapolis. If you want more talking points, you can draw from:
