The SAFE Act Needs Your Help Now to Get a Floor Vote in Annapolis
HB1461 – Supporting All Families Everywhere (SAFE Act)
The SAFE Act will ensure that our tax dollars allocated for policing our streets do not go to support immigration enforcement. It also protects our police by ensuring that they do not accept detainer requests from ICE without a warrant. Detainers without warrants are not legal.
The bill is in the House Judiciary Committee.
The vote to send the bill to the full house is MARCH 13th.
Legislators need to hear from supporters of the bill to have the courage to vote for it in an election year.
A press conference will be held March 8th at 2:00 pm at the House Building – 6 Bladen Street, Annapolis. Be there if you can!

Suggested phone script Hi, I am a constituent of yours and I would like you to vote for the SAFE ACT. I want our police force focusing on the task of keeping our streets safe, and not participating in immigration enforcement or the creation of registries of Marylanders. I also want to support police by allowing them to reject any detainer notices that are not accompanied by a warrant, since those detainers are illegal. Please give my input to the delegate.
Submit testimony using the form here to Delegate Gutierrez via email before March 11th.
